Delamont Millennium Stone

Near Killyleagh, Co Down

Page One

In June 1999 Delamont country park which overlooks Strangford lough and only a short distance from the town of Killyleagh recieved a tall, dark, handsome friend to watch over the area for many years to come.
A standing stone, now the tallest in Ireland was delivered in a specially designed steel cradle.  The stone was then pulled slowly into a upright position by 1000 young people from here in  N'Ireland.

Several tow ropes were attached to the cradles eye as you can just about see in the  this photo

Amused spectators scatter as the stone clicks into its final resting place.
